Last Wednesday, in addition to our regular customers, we had a surprise visitor. An owl was sitting on one of the posts of our fence. We spent most of our lives in cities and, for me, owl was something from science text book or museum until I moved to Gabriola, where I have heard nightly call by owls. This guy even had an attitude when I drove my truck right beside him under this post and he did not even flinch (or maybe owl cannot flinch…). This year was our second season here and we saw more creatures including insects, reptiles, deer, frog, lots of birds and this owl than last year. We hope this is a sign of more vitality and energy on our piece of land.
Inevitably season changed and our summer crops are ending. Here is what’s available from our farm and where you can get them.
Salad mix (pre-washed, mix of various lettuce, arugula and mizuna), Curly green kale, lettuce, Chard, German butter potato, shishito pepper (probably last week), whole grain spelt and rye sourdough bread
