We are not vegetarians but we like to explore vegetable based dishes. About 10 years ago, we bought a tempeh for the first time and cooked it at home. We didn’t like it at all! We thought the smell was really unpleasant. We are not sure if it was because we were not familiar with it or we happened to buy one with a funky smell. A few years ago, I went to a cafeteria-style vegan restaurant in Victoria and found a tempeh dish. As it was among a pay-by-weight plates, I bought a small piece and tried. It was surprisingly delicious. Since then, I wanted to make my own tempeh and, finally, I did it!

This one had no strong smell or taste by itself. Only a slight fermentation flavor similar to koji without sweetness. With homemade teriyaki sauce (soy sauce, maple syrup, green onion, and ginger) it was really tasty and satisfying. Here is a link to how to make it. The hardest part is to peel the skin of each soybeans, which took almost 1 hour for both of us…
It has been cold this spring but things are catching up. One of the fastest growing plants in our garden at this moment is snap peas. Last year we made boxes with newspaper and used them as crop boxes at the market. We are planning to do that again, and we would like to ask you:
Save old “Gabriola Sounder” and give them to us, please.

Summer market starts this Saturday. There will be more vendors and there is a cafe inside. We will be at the same location as last year, which is beside AGI hall, with our little truck. You can make the lunch below with our produce. (recipe here)

From this Saturday market hours will be 10am – 2pm. We will bring komatsuna, lettuce, radish, and more. For pre-order of our sourdough bread and koji bread, please click below and fill in the form, or send us an email to sorafarmveggie@gmail.com.
Have a wonderful week!
