Do you peel skin of figs?

As a child, figs were the most favourite fruit of mine. In Japan, everybody (as far as I know) peels the skin of them. I was surprised when I saw people eating figs with skin on in Canada. Now I am getting used to eating them with skin on, but I still prefer peeling it off. Anyway, one of the nicest things about living on Gabriola is that fresh figs are available at relatively low price at farmers’ market, farm stands or sometimes from friends for free.
My mom in Japan said she went to a restaurant for a fig course dinner and sent me photos. Vinegar-pickled fig with a sardine fillet and vegetables, pork with mushroom and fig, and a breaded and deep fried fig. How creative!

Cucumber season is close to an end, maybe 1 or 2 more weeks only, so please get them while you can. We made some quick pickles to enjoy them a bit longer. These are not meant for long term storage, but can keep for a couple of weeks in a fridge. Click here for the recipe.
