One of the things I noticed during this trip was that komatsuna is getting more and more popular. When I was a child, it was called “mochina” in our area and we ate it only for new year in mochi soup. Now it is sold year-round everywhere. It was even served as one of the dishes for breakfast at the ryokan (traditional Japanese hotel) we stayed.

Another dish that caught my attention was this:

It is a green salad topped with mashed pumpkin. The pumpkin was mashed and pureed with seasoning. When mixed with green veggies, it acted like thick dressing and made the salad tasty and satisfying dish.

Last week we had a lot of snow but this week is supposed to be warm. We wish you also have a break from snow and enjoy warm weather.
Have a wonderful week!
