Sora Farm Newsletter-Vol. 72

We have been busy baking but have not forgotten our garden.

Inside of greenhouse, we brought in compost and we are planning to sow some mustard seeds in a few weeks. Outside, we had tried different methods to let the soil rest for winter, cover with plastic, cover with dead leaves, or no cover. We cleaned the no-cover bed last week. When warmer weather comes, we will add compost and plant kales, peas, etc.

As farmers, we are happy when plants grow as we planned, but we are also happy to see surprises. Fennel we planted last season, did not grow much, but new shoots are coming now. Together with overwinter kales and collards, we made delicious salmon salad for dinner.

Our market schedule is as follows:

  • Island Roots Farmers’ Market: Beban Park, 2300 Bowen Road, Nanaimo, 3 – 6pm on Wednesday
  • AGI Market: AGI Hall, Gabriola, 10am – 1pm on Saturday

Have a beautiful week!
